BRUIN VARSITY LIFE

Our BVL Theme for this school year is, "Faith, Hope, & Love", based on 1 Corinthians 13:13. We've gotten off to a great start with our weekly student-athlete chapel gatherings.

This year, Jenny and I are more involved with our BVL Servant-Leader Team (SLT) then we had been over the past few years. There are several reasons for this shift but the reality is the Lord was clearly orchestrating this transition and the timing seems right at the moment. The SLT is comprised of student-athletes from different teams who have demonstrated a strong commitment to growing in Christ, but also in utilizing their spiritual gifts to help encourage the athletic ministry on campus. Our desire is to lovingly walk alongside them and help them grow in their leadership development. Part of our plan with these 10 individuals will be to lead them through a book called, "Spiritual Leadership" by J. Oswald Sanders, which highlight an abundance of biblical principles they can apply to their lives and individual ministries. We look forward to journeying with them throughout the remainder of the school year.

FOOTBALL CHAPLAINCY

Since the beginning of the season, I have been able to lead 5 chapel sessions with the guys. We've had a pretty good mix of guys consistently show up for these 20-25 minute gatherings. More than anything, its awesome just to see 18-22 year old's hungering for spiritual truth. I'm encouraged whenever I read, 1 Corinthians 3:6, because I'm reminded my job as a minister of the Gospel is simply to plant the seed of Gods' Word into the lives of people and trust Him for the increase.

MAN2MAN MINISTRY

Early Wednesday mornings, I have the privilege of leading two separate men's groups. These groups are made up of a variety of men working within the UCLA Athletic Department ranging from coaches to administrators. One group has 5 guys in it and I am leading them through a study on 1 & 2 Peter, and Jude. Thus far, our sessions have been good and we have been enjoying these times of fellowship gleaning from one another and from God's Word.

Immediately following my time with this first group, I then go over to serve our entire Men's Basketball staff. We are studying the same material as my other group. Our times together the past few years have been good and I'm excited to walk alongside these men once again throughout the upcoming season.
