FEBRUARY FUN

A POST VALENTINE'S MOMENT 

Jenny and I recently enjoyed sharing God's word together at our weekly athlete fellowship.  The topic, "Dating Relationships".  We attempted to answer the question, what should "Life with God" look like in our dating relationships?  We thought the time went really well and the students seemed to really enjoy hearing the story of how we met and began dating during our UCLA days.  We even threw in some "throwback" pictures just for fun.  Boy, did they get a kick out of seeing those.

We are always humbled whenever we get the chance to look out into the audience of student-athletes we have the joy of serving.  In many ways, we see ourselves, some 20 years ago.  I think that's why college ministry has been such a passion for us all these years, because it was during those years our lives were the most spiritually impacted. 

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Jenny recently returned from a 4 day road trip to Northern California with the women's basketball team as they traveled to compete against California and Stanford.  The relational time she had with the girls during this trip was priceless.  Lots of 1 on 1 time during meals, around the hotel, on the bus, and during their free time.  Not to mention, great times during pre-game chapel.  

I must admit, its pretty cool seeing Jenny's getting a taste of "team travel" for herself after hearing about all of my football chaplaincy road stories throughout the years.  

70th Birthday Surprise

A couple of weekends ago, my older brother and I flew back to Maryland to surprise our mother on her 70th birthday.  With the help of our younger brother, who also lives in Maryland, the plan worked to perfection.  Most of you are aware that over the past 4 years, my mom has endured her share of medical issues.  She's had 2 knee replacements, suffered a stroke in 2013 during brain surgery, which has limited her mobility and the use of her right arm. On top of all that, she lost her mom in the beginning of 2014.  Yet, despite all of this, she continues to smile and has displayed a deep and abiding joy within.  What an amazing lady and trooper she has been. God has been so faithful to her and our family during these challenging times and we're just thrilled to be able to bless her in this way.
