CELEBRATING GOD

WHAT A "GOD MOMENT"!

Jonathan, a member of the UCLA golf team, stood up to make an announcement at one of our most recent Tuesday night athlete fellowship meetings.  As he stood upfront, he began to share about the spiritual journey he had been on up until that point.  His yearning for God was evident, to the point he had sensed the need to reach out for help.  That's when Jonathan called, Andrew, another chaplain I work with on campus.  After conversing for a period of time, Andrew encouraged Jonathan to invite Jesus into His heart and to ask God to make Himself very real to him.  Jonathan did just that!  Well to Jonathan's surprise, he was awakened early the next morning to a text message he received on his phone.  This particular text message was sent from a girl he attended middle school with, but who he wasn't very close with or had even seen in a number of years, for that matter.  So why would she randomly reach out to him now?  More importantly, what would she possibly have to say to him after so many years?

Jonathan was simply "blown away" by this OUT OF THE BLUE text message that said something like, "Jonathan, I just wanted you to know that God loves you very much and that He wants you to know He is always here for you!"

Talk about a "God Moment!"  I don't know about you, but I see God's hand all over this one!  God is so Powerful that He wanted to make it ABUNDANTLY clear to Jonathan that He would/could show up in his life by any means necessary.  Our God is an Awesome God!

As Jonathan told this story to our group that night, I was reminded how very real God wants to be in our lives.  If you saw the look on Jonathan's face and were able to look into his eyes, you would have been convinced, too, that God showed up in a BIG way in his life.  I believe He will NEVER forget that moment for the rest of his life.

A NIGHT OF HONOR

We not only want to celebrate what GOD is doing in Jonathan's life, but we also want to give honor to a group of student-athletes who will soon be moving on to the next chapter of their lives.  On May 27th, we will be honoring all the seniors who have been involved in our athletic fellowship over this past school year.  We have a great night planned, as each will have the chance to share about how God has worked in their lives over the past 4-5 years.  We will also present each of them with a commemorative "Track Baton", with the bible verse 2 Timothy 2:2 written on it, to symbolize/remind them what they are called to do as the move on to the next chapter of life.  Finally, we will close out that time by praying and affirming each of them.  Should be a fun night!  Hope to be able to share some photos with you in our next blog post.

PRIME TIME

Jenny and I are being featured in a magazine article being distributed on the UCLA campus all of this coming week.  The name of the magazine is called, PRIME.  God always amazes us by how He chooses to show Himself in and through us.  Our prayer is simply that He would use our story to draw others to Himself.

Here's the link to the article.

PRAISES/PRAYER REQUESTS

  • Jenny will be speaking at a retreat for Women in Sports called, Rest & Renewal, the weekend 5/30-6/1.  Pray she hears from the LORD regarding her message and for boldness and courage to share it.

  • Jaylen's club volleyball team recently earned a spot into the USA Junior National Championship Tournament, to be held in Minneapolis, MN at the end of June.

  • Our son, Kory, has decided he wants to be baptized into the family of God!  As a result, I will have the honor of baptizing him on 5/21, at his school's final chapel service of the year.

  • Kevin's younger brother, Duane, was recently baptized into the family of God on the Tuesday following Easter!  We praise God for this awesome blessing.
