A "SEASON" OF CELEBRATION

BRUIN VARSITY LIFE

Our 2018-19 BVL Servant-Leader Team on top of Janss Steps. (6/5)

Last week marked the final week of the Spring Quarter, meaning another school year has come to an end. We met with our servant-leader team one last time before breaking for the summer.  The BVL SLT consists of student-athletes from different teams who are committed to making a difference for Jesus Christ.  Jenny and I had the privilege of meeting with this group throughout this past year to encourage them in their character/leadership development.  We gave them each a copy of the classic book, "Spiritual Leadership" by J. Oswald Sanders, which is based on leadership principles found in 1 Timothy 3:1-13 and Titus 1:5-9.
During our sessions together, we had some very good discussions and everyone seemed eager to apply what they were learning to their everyday lives and ministries.  Since we only got to the halfway point of the book this year, we will look to finish up together during the course of the upcoming school year.

Our time spent with this crew easily became the highlight
for us this past school year.

BEACH VOLLEYBALL MINISTRY

What a Spring it has been for Jenny and our family. We have been on quite the emotional rollercoaster dealing with things happening both within and outside of our family.  Yet, through it all, we continue to experience God's Hands carrying us through our challenges, even as He continues to pour out His blessings on our lives.  For example, Jenny's Beach Volleyball team had an incredible season, which culminated in both a Pac-12 Championship, as well as a National Championship!  We couldn't be more thrilled then to see this team be rewarded for all the hard work they put into this past year.
In addition to earning these championships, Jenny found out shortly afterwards that she had been inducted into the UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame and will be honored, alongside 7 others in a ceremony in October.  What makes this honor even more special is Jenny and her father, Rafer, become the first Father-Daughter to ever be inducted in the UCLA Hall of Fame.  How sweet is that?! We are all looking forward to celebrating Jenny as she receives such a prestigious honor.

FAMILY MATTERS

  • We are eagerly looking forward to our upcoming trip to Austria in July.  Jenny and I will be speaking multiple times at a week long family camp and will be focusing much of our teaching on Jesus' Sermon on the Mount.  We are all looking forward to this unique ministry opportunity and the chance to minister cross- culturally.  Please pray for us as we prepare for this assignment.

  • The kids are officially done and look forward to their break from school.  Jaylen finishes up her club volleyball season at the end of the month when she and Jenny head out to Detroit for the final tournament of the season.  Following a short break, Jaylen will begin the process of preparing for her High School volleyball season.

  • Kory will continue his involvement with his club basketball team throughout the summer.  He's really enjoying the sport and is growing in his basketball knowledge and development.
