REVIVED

Without a doubt, the last 9 months were some of the more peculiar months in all my years of campus ministry. I don't think I can remember the last time I (Kevin) was on such an emotional and spiritual roller coaster. As I look back on it now, I can clearly see God's hand of grace and mercy throughout every circumstance.  While there were many reasons for the turbulence I experienced, I know that God will ultimately use it all to shape and strengthen Jenny & I for the journey ahead.
This summer proved to be just what the doctor ordered as we were able to get revitalized and now feel ready to move forward in the upcoming school year that is now upon us.

IT IS FINISHED!!

Back in early May, I earned my Master's degree in Pastoral Care & Counseling at Biola University.  The best part was being able to celebrate and cherish this moment with my family, which was worth more than I could have ever hoped or imagined.

FOOTBALL CHAPLAINCY

This summer, I facilitated a weekly bible study for the UCLA football team.  Every week, a dozen guys would show up and share what they were learning as we studied thru the book of Philippians together.  God is sure up to something with this team. So far this season, every pre-game chapel service has averaged 20-25 guys, which is truly amazing.  After an 0-3 start to the season, the team finally won it's first game this past Saturday night in EPIC fashion, which is probably an understatement.

First chapel of the season in Cincinnati with Pastor Robert Lyons. (8/29)

Selected as "Honorary Captain" for first home game
of the season. (9/5)

MEET "BABY J"

Back in late November, I shared with you about a young couple from campus that Jenny & I were able to counsel. The girl literally walked in & out of an abortion clinic on two separate occasions because she "just couldn't do it".  Well, by the grace of God, "Baby J" came into this world on May 18th.  Jenny and I were thrilled to hold him for the first time just last week. Mom & dad are adjusting to their new life as parents but admitted it was rough at the start. (We just told them to "buckle up"... Just kidding, but we sure were thinking that though :)... They now seem to be in a bit of a groove.

PEPPERDINE MEN'S BASKETBALL

Back in July, an unexpected ministry opportunity presented itself (trust me, its a crazy story) to me when I was asked to serve as the chaplain for the Pepperdine Men's Basketball team.  Head Coach, Lorenzo Romar (who I had barely seen or spoken to in a decade up to this point) and I go way back to our days together at UCLA when I was a student-athlete and he was an assistant basketball coach.  He was one of a handful of mentors God placed in my life at that time and it's amazing to see things come full circle. This coming Sunday, I will lead my first devotion with the team.  I look forward to sharing more about this ministry in future posts.  Go Waves!!

FAMILY MATTERS

After being recruited by several colleges to continue her volleyball playing career, Jaylen made the decision back in January to attend Long Beach State next Fall.  Jaylen has worked extremely hard over these past 7 years and we couldn't be more excited for her as she prepares for this next chapter in her life.  Go Beach!!

Kory turned 14 this past June and spent the majority of his summer playing his favorite sport, basketball.  We celebrated his birthday by spending the weekend up in Pismo Beach with his cousin, JD, Uncles Josh and Al and myself.  We had such a blast!

Hard at work putting together his birthday gift on (6/27).

BACK-TO-BACK

Jenny's UCLA beach volleyball team captured its' 2nd consecutive National Championship in May. How sweet it was to relive a moment that few teams get the opportunity to experience together.  Following their victory, the team took off on a 14 day goodwill tour through Italy, Croatia, and Slovakia in late July.

Sweet moment for Jen at Stadio Olympico in Rome, where her dad, Rafer,
won his Gold medal at the 1960 Olympic Games. (7/25)

Thank you for your continued partnership in this ministry.  From the bottom of our hearts, we appreciate your prayers and financial support.  Thank you for walking alongside us as we walk alongside college athletes and their coaches on the campus of UCLA and beyond.  God Bless.
